SMARTcert Canada Practitioner Program
Q&A’s
Q: How does the payment plan work?
A: The payment plan allows you to go through your course while the payments run at a separate, predetermined speed. Plans are available for 4 months, 6 months, 10 months or 12 months
Q: How old do I have to be to take the SMARTcert Canada Practitioner Program?
A: This course is open for +18 year old’s. Please inquire if you are soon to be 18 and would like to register and begin studying before turning of age to become certified.
Q: Are there an pre-requisites to the SMARTcert Canada Practitioner Program?
A: There aren’t any pre-requisites, although it is a “science-heavy” course. Extra library resources are included to help you research any of the terms and content, and as much help is available as you require throughout your process. Book coaching calls anytime.
Q: How much income can a CEMT make?
A: It is suggested that a CEMT charges anywhere between $65-$80/massage, which can be a great income/h in comparison to other jobs! A certain number of massages per week might be enough to cover your horse’s cost altogether, or pay for your show season each year, or build a savings or travel fund, even transition to a full time career…whatever it is that you are looking to do, the opportunities are available.
Q: When is the SMARTcert Canada Practitioner Program being offered next?
A: You are welcome to apply and register whenever you are ready to get started. Begin by studying your theory (a box will be mailed to you within 30 days of starting your course and online resources are accessible immediately after finishing registration). Then when you are ready, schedule your training days.
Q: As soon as I complete the course, can I offer & charge for services as a CEMT?
A: Yes! Your final case study assignment is graded immediately upon submission and you are certified right away. Speak with an accountant about what you need to do to register a business, and we provide all the equine business related support you might need. You will even receive a booklet that will guide you through the first 12 months of growing an equine massage therapy business, and you can book coaching calls anytime as well.
Q: What is the difference between “registered” and “certified” equine massage therapists?
A: Equine massage therapy, unlike human massage therapy, is an unregulated practice. Any business can offer a course so it’s important to do your homework and quality check where you invest in your education and in your future. Most courses offer certification programs however they range in length, depth, and expansive expertise available.
“Registered” in the EMT field does not equal the same as registered in the human massage therapy industry. Instead of being overseen by a college regulator as human RMT’s are, associations or not-for-profits may charge high costs for education, membership, and maintenance fees to equine students learning massage therapy, attempting to imitate the human education system.
Q: Who determines who or what business is capable/knowledgeable enough to provide certification, since there isn’t a governing body that regulates equine massage therapists?
A: The clients & the students determine who is capable/knowledgeable enough to provide certification! Whether you are looking to take a course and become a CEMT or you are looking to hire one, digging into the context of the training provided and the scope of what is covered is definitely important, as well as the qualifications and experience behind those doing the training.
Q: How many hours/week does the SCPP program require?
A: It’s really up to you and your lifestyle and how you can fit the course in or create time for the course. If you are going to open a business, you could consider committing the same time to completing the course that you plan to have for business hours, so that your life transitions easily once certified and you can then fill the time with building your business and working with new clients.
Q: Where does the SCPP program take place?
A: Part of the course is completed independently (the theory portion) with access to online resources. Then your hands-on training is booked (Kew AB, Princeton ON, or Hubley NS). If you would like to see this course brought somewhere else or have a training facility to offer in another province, please contact us.
Q. How long does it take to complete the SCPP course?
A: The SMARTcert Canada Practitioner Program conveniently fits into your lifestyle, so you can take your time and study at your pace. However if you wanted to fast-track the course and finish asap, you could do so in 30-90 days.
